Alfelor Remains Steadfast with LAKAS-KAMPI-CMD
In the midst of all these news of defections from the ruling party, LAKAS-KAMPI-CMD, gubernatorial candidate Cong. Felix R. Alfelor, Jr. remains steadfast on staying with his party.
"I am staying with LAKAS-KAMPI-CMD." Said Cong. Alfelor in an interview. "I don't believe all these events unfolding in national politics will affect our standing here in the province of Camarines Sur." The congressman added.
Referring to the LAKAS stronghold in the 1st, 2nd, and 5th districts in the province, Alfelor is confident that Gilbert "Gibo" Teodoro, the party standard bearer, will get a large lead against Villar and Aquino.
"All of our local leaders in the 1st and 2nd districts are incumbent Mayors and Gibo is strongly supported by their district leaders." Alfelor added. Rolando "Nonoy" Andaya, is running for Congress in the 1st District and Dato Arroyo is the incumbent Congressman of the 2nd district. Alfelor is the incumbent Congressman of the 5th district of the province.
He also added that despite the perception that the 4th district of the province is lorded over by the Fuentebellas, a staunch supporter of Joseph "Erap" Estrada, the party candidate in this district, Teodoro "Teddy" Cruz is maintaining a good showing in surveys and has a solid mass base of Lakas local leaders.
For the 3rd District, which is dominated by the Villafuertes who support Manny Villar, Alfelor said that he, as gubernatorial candidate, was able to organize and maintain a solid Lakas organization of community leaders.
On the national level, Alfelor believes that despite the series of defections plaguing the party, Lakas-Kampi-CMD still dominates the local political scene. He cited that Lakas boasts 51 Governors and at present only two have gone to other parties, namely Typoco of Camarines Norte and Salceda of Albay. "So, we still have 49 out of 79. That is still a big number, especially that all the others are also divided among the three other candidates, Villar, Aquino and Estrada. Nograles has also changed his mind, so I don't think it will affect the party as a whole."
"Lakas-Kampi-CMD is still the party to beat in terms of machinery, that is why all these other parties are clamouring to convince and campaign our party members to change sides to weaken our party organization." Alfelor concluded.
