Leaders Should be Like Jesus (Easter Message of Cong. Felix R. Alfelor, Jr.) Share

Date:
Thursday, April 15th, 2010

This week, we pause for a while from our busy lives. Some used to time to be with family. Others recharged with a well-deserved vacation. While others used the time to reflect on what can be done to become better persons.

Whatever is our choice, let us all remember what our Lord has sacrificed and given up to save humanity. We are all then called to emulate Him and give justice to His sacrifice by living a life of service.

It is regrettable that as others are given the opportunity to serve, they waste the chance to make other people's lives better by taking for themselves what should be for the community. As they continue to enjoy the perks and privileges of power, the people are left hungry, jobless, homeless and sick.

Let us therefore use the time this Holy Week to reflect on the future of our nation. Let us pray for leaders that are humane, respects human rights and the rule of law. We need a leader with a heart that beats for their deprived people and not for the weight of their pockets. A leader who sees government as a tool to serve and not a limitless well of treasure.

We need leaders that are after our Lord, Jesus Christ. Like Jesus, they should be persevering and they should live simple lives. Like Jesus, they should be true and sincere in their service. Like Jesus, leaders should be humble.

This Sunday, as the Christian world celebrates the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, let us also celebrate the opportunity to have a better future.

Happy Easter!
